Tracfone technical support is a joke
I never got to use the phone because I could not set the voicemail up. The instructions on the web site did not work so I called their "technical" support. It was clear from the start they are using outsourced staff who have no knowledge of the product and a less-than-adequate command of the English language. I spoke to 4 different people, each of whom put me on hold repeatedly as they tried in vain to find someone else in the call center who knew how to address the problem. I spent an entire day calling them (I was repeatedly told we need to reset something call back in 4 hours...). One person told me my local (Seattle)carrier had no email or phone number and they had to write them a note about my problem and Fed ex it to them!! I asked repeatedly if there was another level of technical support I could be escalated to and was told no. The last person I spoke to told me after a half hour on the phone with her that my brand new Nokia phone required voicemail to be set up AND RETRIEVED BY A LANDLINE ONLY!!! I could not believe this was correct but it was clear there was no one there who had a clue about how to fix what should have been an extemely simple problem. I find it insulting that a company would ask for my money and loyalty and provide this type of "support" in return. I want nothing to do with Tracfone, and have heard Net10 is also owned by them. If you care about customer service stay far away from these providers.

Great secondary device and service
I had a relative visiting from abroad and wanted to provide them with a temporary phone. Tracfone serves well under these situation. I wouldn't boast of its reception ability but will say with confidence that it performs sufficiently well as a side phone. This is a good service if you barely use your phone or desire to be contract free.
Service was way too expensive
I got this Tracfone as a gift, and it's an OK phone, but the service was very expensive.I did about 100 minutes of calling a month and was spending about $35.I ended up going to Virgin Mobile and got a great little plan that had tons of minutes for the same $35 ($34.99 for 300 anytime minutes and 1000 Night and Weekend minutes).Plus, my Virgin Mobile phone was much better. ... don't do it
After I received my phone etc. I never had service. Many, many phone calls later with no help and no service I finally contacted the Florida Better Busness Bureau and got some help, or so I thought.Tracfone called me and had me send back the phone the card etc. and said it would refund my money.The received it July 1st (it was tracked) and I have yet to hear from them.Stay away.

GREAT phone, GREAT service, BUT BEWARE THE TERMS
I am quite satisfied with the function of the TracFone we bought, and the service coverage is pretty good.

Nice for starters
This is my first phone in about 30 years and my first cell phone ever. Nice phone for starters as I am a very, very light user.Found customer service very helpful and fast.Easy to activate and set up features.Got together with my new friend Rick for the referral free minutes.I am a happy camper (so far)!!

Overall I am very satisfied.Good feature set; nice display; simple to operate; good signal quality in my area (Chicago metro) - even from my office buried deep within a building with lots of machinery.I'm a light user and was already a Tracfone customer.Bought this when I saw their promo for a free phone (refurbished) plus bonus minutes with a 1-yr contract.Previous phone (Nokia ) was several years old; worked fine but battery life was poor by today's standards and I wanted something smaller/lighter; was also tired of having to add minutes every 60-days.Got the V170 phone and 250 units plus another 200 bonus units with the 1-yr. agreement for $100.Even though they say the phone is refurbished, it appears to be a new unit (came with a new battery for sure but if there's a blemish elsewhere then I can't see it).Customer service was excellent; they extended my 60-day service period on the old phone while I was waiting for the new phone to arrive - rather than forcing me to add minutes to the old phone to keep it active.Activation was simple enough; I called customer service and they transferred my phone number and minutes from my old phone and even gave me a little extra (they rounded up the total to 500 minutes).Service kicked in about an hour later.Their call center is obviously overseas but their reps are generally quite fluent in English (with an accent) and courteous - and I've always found their service to be prompt.I've been using Tracfone for several years now and would recommend them if you only need a phone for light personal use.

I've had my Tracfone for about 5 months now. The reception has been generally good. Once i got the phone activated, I haven't had any problems. Just hope that your phone never quits working
I had been very happy with my Motorola phone until the battery started losing its charge within a day, even when the phone was turned off. The friendly but incompetent customer support kept me on the phone for an average of 40 minutes for the repeated calls trying to figure out the problem. After the phone had finally been sent to their technical service center, they returned it to me that the phone was irreperable "due to customer abuse." I have done nothing to that phone that could have caused any damage (unless using it to make phone calls counts as "customer abuse"), but got the same comment, without explanation after I had sent the phone in for a second time for reevaluation. It seems that Motorola is just trying to get out of fixing or replacing the phone free of charge under warranty. You'll be fine with a Motorola phone as long as it works.
