Get ready for high-powered messaging, email, chat, and a whole lot more with the ingeniously designed Kyocera KX21 "Switchback." At first glance, the phone looks like just another candybar style handset. Flip it open, though, and you've got a QWERTY keyboard and a large internal display. Plus, features like a VGA camera, support for the wireless Internet, and a speakerphone make this phone far from ordinary. It's a great way to take advantage of all that Virgin Mobile prepaid service has to offer.Read more

Features

  • Flip it open and you've got a QWERTY keyboard; perfect for messaging and email.
  • Integrated speakerphone makes hands-free communication a breeze.
  • Features an alarm, calendar, calculator (with a tip calculator) and a voice memo recorder.
  • Built-in VGA camera with self portrait mirror and LED flash.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesum fone!!!!
I am 14 yrs old and I am about to get the switchback. I already tried out my friends it is so kewl. Full querty keyboard makes txting fast. Comes with AIM software and AOL mail 2!!! I have had 2 oystrs, one got a tiny bit of water on it and broke, that was stupid. Dont listen 2 that stupid lookout guy. R U KIDDING!!!! Virgin mobile service is amazing, no "hidden fees" Stores 500 contacts, great cuz i have a lot of friends, and plays superphonic ringtones(real music tones)not those stupid polyphonic 1s. At the moment it is only 130 bucks, great deal 4 what u get. The only thing that sucks is the ringtone prices, 2.50 a real music tone.:0 God. That really sucks. o yeah, it also has a camera, 2 megapixels which is decent 4 a camera fone, and a flashlight. I think the price will be down 2 100 soon. 2 bad it does not have a camcorder or a mp3 player. OVERALL, SWEET FONE GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
I have this phone and it's great.Text messaging, which I do a lot of, is really easy, and now Virgin Mobile offers 1000 text messages for 9.99, so basically 1 penny for each text message.Coverage is perfect wherever I go, and I never have any problems picking up a signal because Virgin uses the Sprint network.

3-0 out of 5 stars about the "failed to send message" notices
that's a virgin mobile service problem, it's not the phone itself.my sister has a different phone with virgin mobile and she's experiencing the same problem, so is her bf who is also with virgin mobile and has a completely different phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
This is a real bummer because this phone has the features I wanted but there really is some sort of issue with the battery.Mine would only last 24-30 hours although the box says 200+ hours of standby.I'm on my second phone with the same problem and will be returning it today to get something else entirely. I've talked to both Kyocera and Virgin Mobile about it but no one wants to acknowledge there is a problem.Virgin Mobile customer service has ranged from outright rude to pleasant but unable to solve the problem.
1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible phone!
We excitedly bought the Oystr phone for my teenager in late July, activated it, charged it, etc.It never held a charge for more than 36 hours. We tried a charger from her sister's Kyocera (different model) phone.Still no charge.Returned it to Target, and exchanged battery for another Oystr battery.Still no charge. Finally returned Oystr phone with replacement battery to Target and exchanged for another Oystr phone.Again, tried to charge 3 times using the 3 Kyocera chargers we now own.THIS PHONE WON'T HOLD A CHARGE MORE THAN 24 HOURS!!!I got on the internet and found that LOTS of people are experiencing the same thing with the Oystr phone. It's obviously NOT the battery, NOT the charger...IT'S THE PHONE!

2-0 out of 5 stars got batteries?
overall a decent little phone for if you just need something for basic use.the quick-key funtioning is awkward and not intuitive if you're used to say, a nokia, but you get used to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone
This is a good phone and it does a lot of things I just wished it was smaller and that the sound on the MP3 player was louder when using headphones

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Phone I've Ever had (I've had 5)
I'm 13 years old, and I recently purchased this phone to replace my Motorola V276 prepaid cell phone (Had that for like a month, had to get a new one because they charge you a dollar a day even when you dont make calls. So it was way too expensive, it cost $45 in prepaid cards after only a month) Anyway, this phone is excellent.
4-0 out of 5 stars Could be better.
I needed a cell phone, and I didn't want to be attached to contracts so I knew I was going to have prepaid. Virgin Mobile seemed the best for Pre-Paid (believe me, I reserched like every phone company). This phone is decent for camera/video/mp3. The phone, itself, is a slider phone. I thought I'd try a slider after I had a bar and a flip phone. If you do buy this phone, BUY A COVER! Since there's nothing to cover your main screen, it gets scratched easily. It looks terrible in the light. The functions of the phone are pretty much basic. Virgin Mobile's network is great too. (And if you look at other phone reviews, the phone itself doesn't have to do with the bars you get) The only thing I don't like is how virgin Mobile makes the icons.

4-0 out of 5 stars Meh, pretty good
Not sure about the name but I did try this one out before I upgraded to the Snapper. It's small and has a unique shape that people always notice. If you like the pay-as-you-go plan then you'll like this....it's not that expensive after all.
3-0 out of 5 stars It's OOOOOOOOOOOOOK
I've had this phone for about 3 years now (it's my first)and the best thing I can say about it is it's so durable, that's also the worst thing about it.I've dropped it a couple of times and it still works just fine. I've never had a problem with reception or service and virgin mobile's pay as you go plan is great for those of us who are not big time talkers. It's basically a no thrills phone with a no thrills plan. But all that no thrills can be pretty boring after a while.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for what I need
I have had this phone for several years and it has been very durable. I keep it in my back pocket, have dropped it repeadedly, and it still works quite well. The battery usually lasts for several days w/ medium-heavy useage. As far as I can tell, this is a no frills phone. I.e. it has few of the features that characterize the most recent phones but that is why I like it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone with Few Features
Pre-pay service plan is best for those who don't use the cell phone much. The K7 phone is fairly durable, but the antenna on mine won't stay in after about a year of use. Now the antenna pops out when I'm fishing for the phone while driving (I know, bad form), and gets lost on the floorboard. Needless to say, I did not connect with that call.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Do It
When it comes time to convert your number over to another phone, Virgin Mobile will make it hard for you. It took me about 7.5 hrs trying to transfer two numbers. You also lose whatever balance you had on the phones.

1-0 out of 5 stars Try tracfone instead !!!
Tracfone gives better deals in minutes. It is perfect for those with light, in town usage. It only uses one unit per minute, two if you're outside of your area code(roaming), and long distance doesn't cost any extra. The airtime doesn't cost a fortune, and you have no credit checks, or monthly bills. Reception is good because they utilize many different providers instead of just one. They also have a referral program, so you can earn 100 extra minutes for free if your friends and family buy one too(they also get 180 minutes). If you want a referral to get started with 100 free minutes, just e-mail me at amitgames@yahoo.com , I'd be happy to send you the link! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PHONE
This is a very good phone. And the ringtones are good and loud.the wallpaper they provide for you on the phone are ok,MY mother bought me this phone and it is one of the best phones I have ever had.Andyou dont need a contract, all you have is top up about 20 dollars a month or whatever plan you choose. The only thing i didnt like about the slider was the screen on the outside because it scratches easy, but otherwise i would defintly recommend this phone!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best (and coolest) little phone
I've owned this phone for about a year, and it has been the most exceptional piece of technology I have ever owned.First off, let me say this: in the year that I've had this phone, It's been dropped out of high windows onto concrete, has been slept on, kicked, dropped, you name it : and the only scars on it are a few minor scratches!!!The features on this phone are pretty cool- no advanced features like web browsing or downloadable games, but the games on there will keep you busy and the sliding desgin is really neat.Virgin Mobile's service is excellent, as well.I've had phones before this one with Virgin's service (None were as wonderful as the V5 slider) and they always had all of the bars almost everywhere I went, even on a weekend trip to Canada! The pricing on the plans are only for people who rarely use their phones, though. And about this "lookout guy" and his rundown of the prices: the line "do some freshing up on your math skills" makes me laugh every time I see it because he obviously A.) hasn't read the costs in every booklet and every webpage that has virgin mobile on it or B.) (I like to think it's this one) he doesn't know how to do math!I've had the Minute to Minute plan for all of my Virgin mobile phones, and It's quite simple: 25 cents a minute for the first 10 minutes for each day, 10 cents for every minute after the initial 10 minutes every day.I have no idea where this guy pulled the "$1.50 fee" out of his head, but the only thing I can think of is the first 10 minutes costing 25 cents, but this would mean that the so called "fee" would be $2.50.He just simply does not know what he's talking about. Also, Mr.Lookout guy, it only costs money to look at your balance the third time you look each day! Please, the next time you criticize something so harshly, do your research and try owning the product that you're criticizing! There are no hidden fees here, folks- after looking at my balance and knowing exactly how much I ued my phone and how much I should have spent, it's always correct! The bottom line for this phone AND virgin mobile: If you hardly use your cell phone OR if you're a teen, this is a great plan and phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars From Someone Who Actually Owns One...
I had the Kyocera K7 before, I've reviewed it there and I liked it. But my needs changed. My needs are fairly simple, actually. I don't care whether the screen is color or not. I'm a grownup, and so I don't need all the MTV crap. I didn't buy the phone to be a toy, but to be a PHONE.

1-0 out of 5 stars Torture.
I feel very strongly that my life would be better had I never purchased this phone. It drops nearly 50% of my calls. The reception is terrible and fuzzy. It makes making a simple phone call an horrible ordeal. The purpose of a cell phone is to make calls and this fails at that. But it has a flashlight.

1-0 out of 5 stars Kyocera Phone broke with 8 months/Verizon would not honor warranty.
The phone broke within 8 months. It had a one year warranty through Verizon.I took the phone to Verizon and they would not repair it saying it was "regular wear and tear".I cancelled the account and was charged a $175 early termination fee, which I am appealing. If you want a phone that will last over 8 months, don't buy this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Functional Quality Powers over Design. Worth the purchase...
Ive had this cell phone for over 1.5 years now and I have no complaints as some may have mentioned, such as voice. When I talk with other people, I only need to keep the volume at mid level..even at that, the sound quality is loud on my end.
1-0 out of 5 stars horrible phone

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.
I'm a college student who is always looking to get a deal on something.I wasn't ready for a full-fledged cell phone contract two years ago, so I got this pay-as-you-go phone from Verizon.$15 a month seemed just right for my budget.I used (and still use) this phone for emergencies and for when I'm out of town. This little phone has served me well. It's done what it was made to do, and just that.If you're looking for a basic phone that is sturdy, this phone does that very well.
3-0 out of 5 stars good, reliable phone
I have had this phone fo 2 years and have never had any trouble. I went to Jamaica and still had full service. I have never had any problem with the phone staying charged.

3-0 out of 5 stars Basic Phone
The Kyocera KX414 is my second phone. After losing my Motorola V267, I was forced to use my parent's old phone, which happened to be the Kyocera KX414. Overall it is a good basic cell phone. No games come with the phone. To get games you have to download them for a price (Which Half Of The Games Aren't Even Worth) on the Get It Now service. Changeable faceplates are a hassle to change. To change a faceplate you have to buy a special screwdriver.
