it looks good
I wanted 4 major things in a phone: quad-band GSM (for international travel, and for flexibility with my soon-to-end contract), Bluetooth, a slim design for my pocket, and no camera. This is the only phone I could find that met all four criteria.

Turns off & bad placement for PTT button
Got this phone for my husband and boy do I wish we'd picked another.He wears his phone on his belt and just the act of sitting down pushes the PTT button.I wish there were at least a way to disable it!
Defective phone?
I got this phone in April of this year with the recommendation that it had superior reception. Well, wrong. It gets tenuous reception at best. What my real problem with this model is that it is just plain defective! I went through 4 separate phone with 4 separate problems. I finally petitioned cingular for a different phone. Other than that I was happy with the ease of use (I'm no techie) apperance.

Good Phone
I love this phone. I was thinking about getting a RAZR but my friend has one and they just fog up because they are so fancy. I saw this phone and I instantly wanted to get it. Except for if i am not using the built in push to talk, this makes the button on the side very annoying. Awesum fone!!!!
I am 14 yrs old and I am about to get the switchback. I already tried out my friends it is so kewl. Full querty keyboard makes txting fast. Comes with AIM software and AOL mail 2!!! I have had 2 oystrs, one got a tiny bit of water on it and broke, that was stupid. Dont listen 2 that stupid lookout guy. R U KIDDING!!!! Virgin mobile service is amazing, no "hidden fees" Stores 500 contacts, great cuz i have a lot of friends, and plays superphonic ringtones(real music tones)not those stupid polyphonic 1s. At the moment it is only 130 bucks, great deal 4 what u get. The only thing that sucks is the ringtone prices, 2.50 a real music tone.:0 God. That really sucks. o yeah, it also has a camera, 2 megapixels which is decent 4 a camera fone, and a flashlight. I think the price will be down 2 100 soon. 2 bad it does not have a camcorder or a mp3 player. OVERALL, SWEET FONE GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Great Phone
I have this phone and it's great.Text messaging, which I do a lot of, is really easy, and now Virgin Mobile offers 1000 text messages for 9.99, so basically 1 penny for each text message.Coverage is perfect wherever I go, and I never have any problems picking up a signal because Virgin uses the Sprint network.

about the "failed to send message" notices
that's a virgin mobile service problem, it's not the phone itself.my sister has a different phone with virgin mobile and she's experiencing the same problem, so is her bf who is also with virgin mobile and has a completely different phone.

Nice for starters
This is my first phone in about 30 years and my first cell phone ever. Overall I am very satisfied.Good feature set; nice display; simple to operate; good signal quality in my area (Chicago metro) - even from my office buried deep within a building with lots of machinery.I'm a light user and was already a Tracfone customer.Bought this when I saw their promo for a free phone (refurbished) plus bonus minutes with a 1-yr contract.Previous phone (Nokia ) was several years old; worked fine but battery life was poor by today's standards and I wanted something smaller/lighter; was also tired of having to add minutes every 60-days.Got the V170 phone and 250 units plus another 200 bonus units with the 1-yr. agreement for $100.Even though they say the phone is refurbished, it appears to be a new unit (came with a new battery for sure but if there's a blemish elsewhere then I can't see it).Customer service was excellent; they extended my 60-day service period on the old phone while I was waiting for the new phone to arrive - rather than forcing me to add minutes to the old phone to keep it active.Activation was simple enough; I called customer service and they transferred my phone number and minutes from my old phone and even gave me a little extra (they rounded up the total to 500 minutes).Service kicked in about an hour later.Their call center is obviously overseas but their reps are generally quite fluent in English (with an accent) and courteous - and I've always found their service to be prompt.I've been using Tracfone for several years now and would recommend them if you only need a phone for light personal use.

One phone has it all!
This is truly one phone in the market which has almost everything you could want in terms of features and new technology. It is a mini pda with bluetooth, Wi-fi, mp3 player and camera and they all work perfectly. You can use Wi-fi anywhere without subscribing to any additional services. You can sync your contacts, calender etc. using activesync which just takes seconds to install. I've also tried the Mp3 player by putting a 1 GB mini sd card in the phone and using the latest Windows media player and the activesync, downloading songs on the phone was a breeze and the quality is great. The battery life is very good considering all that this phone does. It is also fairly light and small with a very sharp display. The only con for me were the small buttons, but, I didn't want to take away a star for that because of the overall value of this phone. If you don't require afull fledged pda phone, you cannot go wrong with this one so give it a shot!

Nice Phone!
I've had this phone for about 3 days now. I got it to replace my old Samsung A530. Here are my thoughts:
Agree with previous review re: software, possible way to get around it
Have had this phone for 36 hours (9/25/06)and am being told by Verizon I have to delete all 150+ of my stored numbers and start from scratch (I had an LG 7000 series which I never liked).Seems there is a software issue and there is no data on when it will be resolved. Phone makes a call from phone book but does not complete the call when your intended answers the phone.Speakerphone calling seems to negate this defect and if you press the speaker button when the person answers, it seems to work.Pressing it twice did get the phone to work but not the headset.Blue tooth headset (Moto H500)paired easily only it did'nt work through the speaker option I may have discovered. Looks like a nice phone, light, easy to use but decision is, is this worth the extra steps, reliable enough to function normally and then left to guess when the software fix is available and just "stop-in to Verizon"? Surely they aren't going to tell me when it's ready. Probably worth it to wait to buy this phone or choose another if you have tons of numbers to enter.Verizon should have known this, but I'm sure it's a great first time phone or if you don't have lots of numbers to transfer over.

Flip (or not flip) for Nokia Flip
Well I decided that I liked the Nokia brand well enough to try their flip phone.However word has it this is not a true Nokia phone but Pan-tech.I haven't received it yet but my research shows that you also can NOT use the PC Suite software Nokia has for most of their phones.Aaargh.I do not want to re-enter all my phone numbers.Most likely this is because the phone is a Pan-tech.I likely won't keep it because of that but will update to let you know if it seems flimsy or not.

print out your own rebate when you purchased
I purchased this phone on Amazon on Sep and saw $30 rebate when I purchased. After I got it, there is no any information on rebate and customer service said there is no rebate. It's very bad that I didn't print out the rebate form when I purchased. So I paid $67 for such a simple phone. So suggestions here is that print out the rebate form when you purchased and don't rely on the sellers for it. Hopefully this could be helpful

Almost Perfect
This is my first cell phone. I avoided buying a cell phone for years. I find them (and the people who use them constantly) annoying. They seem to be used mostly as a distraction (probably because people are trying to use up their monthly minutes), though there is the occasional clueless individual that hasn't realized that every one has a cell phone now & that they're no longer a status symbol (but still has to make everyone around him aware that he's using one). To add to that, I've heard nothing but complaints (customer service, charges, reception) from everyone about their carrier (no matter who their carrier is). Because I need a land line for my DSL service, even a $29.99/mo. plan for a cell phone is too much for something I will only use occassionally. However, the number of occasions where I absolutely needed one has been growing. So I actually started to comparison shop, with the idea that I might buy one when the monthly charge comes down. Verizon seemed to get the best reception/customer service reviews, though they were also the most expensive. T-Mobile usually came in second. So, I happened to be looking in my Target circular one week, when I saw this phone was being given out free if you bought a $100 (1000 minutes) card (sale has expired, but maybe it'll be repeated?). So I ran to my store & am glad I did. This is definitely the best way to test if you would like a cell phone before deciding on a particular plan.

The first thing I noticed about the phone was how thin and cheap the plastic is/feels.If I drop this phone I am fairly certain that it will crack on impact.Booooo!

Good GPS phone
This was the first phone with the GPS feature from Verizon. I got this phone solely for its GPS feature. The GPS feature works very well. Everything else about the phone is just plain vanilla.
Good for the first month
I usually have no problems with minute annoyances at all. I'm not the one to complain about glitches or errors, but this phone is the worst phone that I have had in the last 5 years. I was really happy with this phone when I bought it. The camera was a huge step up from the free phone I got with the plan, and it was over all a better phone (and it still). That is if it ever gets around to working. I don't like to erase my text messages everyday so they pile up, this causes the phone to lag, a lot. When it first started lagging I would delete my messages (which takes about 10 mins if u have over 700 in the box which is annoying itself) and it would work fine, but now the phone has just slowed down in general. When I try to bring up my contacts it literally takes about 10 secs for them to load. Personally I don't like to wait 10 seconds just for a screen to come up on my phone. Now it has gotten to the point at which sometimes a message wont go through no matter how many times I try to resend it until I turn the phone on and off and then it goes through just fine. I understand not being able to send message because of the service but a phone should have nothing to do with it. Like I said, I was very happy with the phone when I first got it, and it if worked like it's supposed to my review would be different, unfortunately for this phone (and for me) it doesn't.

easy and useful
I bought this phone for my Mom who is NOT technology savvy when she decided she wanted her 20-something kids all on the same network instead of different ones. Verizon was great about keeping all three of our numbers, which all three have different area codes, into a family share plan. They upgraded my brother's phone and my Mom's phone. My brother got a free phone, but Mom wanted something "prettier" so for 49.99 we chose this phone for her. She likes that it has a nice backdrop, easy to use, you can find things on it, and it has great reception. She works in a brick building with cement walls and that often means for people bad reception. She has great reception. She and my Dad live in a remote part of the state but this phone has never let her down. Her battery life is fantastic, the speakers work well, and she loves the fact that it isn't all metallic and slippery. She likes the larger window to show the time, and she has never had a problem with it freezing. 4 months later, it is still working out great for her. ... Read more

I love this phone, but if I didn't use the internet a lot I would have stuck with my i860.
Horrible battery life!!!
Got the phone 2 days ago. Fully charge over night, went to work, battery run out before i got home!!! Total calls made = 4, Total minutes used = 10 mints, Total battery life < 10 hours! Return next day. Great looking phone, lot of functions, feel very well build, but terrrible battery life!

My phone!
I bought this phone last month and it is a really good phone. It's not too fancy and not too expensive, I'd definatly get this phone if you want something less expensive that works great!

Good at start
When i first got this phone, i was really happy with it. i thought the features that came with it were great, and really worth the price. ofcourse, there comes a however: three days after i bought it, the camera has a major malfunction. everything i try to photograph (indoors/outdoors, day/night, white/black)comes out with a very annoying red tint. the pictures are all monotone. just red and white.

Better than my old LG piece of junk
This is a good solid phone so far.Other reviewers are correct that you should invest the time to the read the manual.My biggest complaint that has not yet been addressed in the reviews is that the phone can only hold 30 text messages in its memory.Despite having something like five Meg of memory on the phone and a Micro SD memory card, that's it.The size of the text message doesn't seem to matter.

I received my phone new from tmobileto find the keypadonly works occasionally at random. When I called customer service after much troubleshooting, they asked me if it ever worked and I said yes, sometimes but it doesn't work all of the time and it happens everyday and it is extremely inconvenient to me. Great secondary phone
I had a relative visiting from abroad and wanted to provide them with a temporary phone. Tracfone serves well under these situation. I wouldn't boast of its reception ability but will say with confidence that it performs sufficiently well as a side phone. This is a good service if you barely use your phone or desire to be contract free.

My tracfone has worked out good so far. Customer service is fine and the free voicemail was easy to set up and use. I've had this phone for a month or two now and I'm becoming more and more disappointed with it.It looks nice and has a lot of features but it has many flaws and most of the features are just poorly designed and only there to say the phone has them.
T309
I've had my T309 for a little while now. The battery life on it is great, and the java games are pretty good to. The reception is always really good for me, but of course that will depend on where you live. The front of it is prone to scratches and i wish i had put it in a cover of some sort when i had got it. Keep the plastic that covers the front screen on it for as long as you can! The camera phone quality is not really that great, a lot of other phones have much better quality. The video feature is kinda cool, but again quality of the image is not that great. It's not a phone for you if you're going to be sending lots of images and videos. It's more for the average person who might take pics and vids once in a while. Other then that, the phone is really good. Has ample storage for your contacts and for you text messages. T-mobile also offers lots of great ringtones and they sound good on this phone, that was a big one for me as i download a new one probabaly once or twice a week.

Superb Basic Cell Phone
I got this phone to replace my home landline, and so far, I have zero complaints/issues. The battery life is exceptional, and here in the Philadelphia suburbs, T-Mobile provides great service. The call quality is outstanding, and the phone is comfortable to use. The build quality seems very good, so if you're looking for a no-nonsense phone, without the bells and whistles, this is the phone for you.
Bad Reception - hard to use
I got this phone to avoid all the bells and whistles of the camera phones. I just wanted a simple phone to send and receive phone calls. This is not the one. The reception is terrible. I live in a moderately sized city and have a 3 mile drive to work near a major interstate. My phone dropped calls near the major interstate and did not work in most buildings. Forget using it while shopping in a mall or a Target. I was never a big fan of Motorola and decided to give them a second chance. I would not have purchased this phone again. It also seemed to have problems finding the T-Mobile signal and would roam to Cingular. I have also noticed the battery does not last as long as they claim. I would say about half what is stated is more correct. The phone's features are also cumbersome. There is a lot of button pushing for not a lot of anything. The phone list does not let you place numbers that you call at frequently at the front. They are alphabetized no matter where you want them to be. There is a speed dial but it requires as least three button pushes and who wants to have to remember just what number is what person (I have enough to remember). The only plus is the Bluetooth - that is if you can get a signal to use it.

Don't bother
This is a real bummer because this phone has the features I wanted but there really is some sort of issue with the battery.Mine would only last 24-30 hours although the box says 200+ hours of standby.I'm on my second phone with the same problem and will be returning it today to get something else entirely. I've talked to both Kyocera and Virgin Mobile about it but no one wants to acknowledge there is a problem.Virgin Mobile customer service has ranged from outright rude to pleasant but unable to solve the problem.
Terrible phone!
We excitedly bought the Oystr phone for my teenager in late July, activated it, charged it, etc.It never held a charge for more than 36 hours.We tried a charger from her sister's Kyocera (different model) phone.Still no charge.Returned it to Target, and exchanged battery for another Oystr battery.Still no charge.Finally returned Oystr phone with replacement battery to Target and exchanged for another Oystr phone.Again, tried to charge 3 times using the 3 Kyocera chargers we now own.THIS PHONE WON'T HOLD A CHARGE MORE THAN 24 HOURS!!!I got on the internet and found that LOTS of people are experiencing the same thing with the Oystr phone.It's obviously NOT the battery, NOT the charger...IT'S THE PHONE!

overall a decent little phone for if you just need something for basic use.the quick-key funtioning is awkward and not intuitive if you're used to say, a nokia, but you get used to it.

Great mutimedia-phone, you don't have to carry MP 3 player separately anymore!
First off, I thought the phone was little bit big compared to my previous Samsung A670(verizon) phone.
Good phone, but not great for texters
I've had this phone for about 3 months, and use it along with my Sanyo (one for work, one for personal). Both are used almost equally. The Samsumg seems to have tons of features that I've not even had the chance to try out yet, and I do look forward to doing so. However, my main complaint with this phone, as I've seen other people note, is the messaging system. The T9 does not recognize the word 'me'! How can that be?? Since I use text a bunch (about 2,000 messages per month) this really bugs me. I was worried about signal strength as I've had issues with other Samsungs in the past (as compared with Sanyos) but this phone and my other seem to be comparable in this respect. Overall, I think most people would be very pleased to own this phone.

Pray it does not break
I had this phone for a month, quality was ok, but reception not the best. After 28 days, my phone started acting up. I called samsung, mailed it to them and did not get it back until 2 months later! I did have to continue paying my cell service, over $140.00 for the 2 months. Samsung said it would take 3-4 weeks, but they had to wait for a part? The manufacture had to wait for a part! I would be on hold, get transferred, etc. to find out their database is only updated about once a month with the repair status. Customer service and Warranty deserve a great big 0.
